“TIMBARRA BASKETBALL STADIUM A STEP CLOSER”, DONNELLAN

The Brumby Government has today offered land adjacent to the proposed Timbarra Year 7-9 Secondary College in Berwick for lease or sale to the City of Casey to enable construction of the much anticipated basketball stadium.

In what would be a significant boost to sporting facilities in the City of Casey, Luke Donnellan MP, Member for Narre Warren North, said the Brumby Government had already committed $500,000 to support the construction of the basketball stadium.

“The Brumby Government has committed to building the Timbarra Year 7-9 Secondary College to service the fast growing area of the Timbarra Estate in Casey’s north.” Mr Donnellan said.

“To further improve the facility of this school and tackle the massive shortage of basketball courts in the City of Casey, the Brumby Government is clearing the way for the council to build this much needed facility”, Mr Donnellan said.

To support council’s desire to begin development of the basketball stadium as soon as possible, the State Government is offering the City of Casey the option to either lease or purchase a portion of the land owned by the Department of Education set aside for educational purposes.

“This offer will allow the City of Casey to start immediately on delivering on previous commitments to construct a basketball stadium on this site, independent of the development of the college,” Mr. Donnellan said.

“With the State Government’s commitment of $500,000 along with a commitment of $2 million from the Rudd Federal Government, the City of Casey needs to match this commitment and proceed with this much needed facility as a matter of urgency”, Mr. Donnellan said.

“The Brumby Government is keen to work with the council to provide the best possible facilities for the local community, and awaits their decision on the basketball project.”

The Brumby Government’s record investment in school buildings and infrastructure will help boost the skills and education of young Victorians and meet the challenges of the future,” Mr Donnellan said.
