“Nightrider coming to Casey”
After a long campaign seeking to have the current nightrider bus service extended from its current final destination of Dandenong and continue in Casey, the State Government as part of its 2008 Budget has announced the Nightrider Bus Service will be extended into Casey, according to State member for Narre Warren North Luke Donnellan MP.
“I am more than pleased to announce this extension; I am thrilled with the news,” Mr Donnellan said.
Luke Donnellan, the Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier has long advocated and fought for an extension to this important service and with the support of other local MP’s, Judith Graley (Member for Narre Warren South) and Jude Perera (Member for Cranbourne) the extension has finally happened.
“A lot of people right around the City of Casey have been calling for this service to be extended for quite some time and I am delighted I have been able to deliver on this commitment I gave one year ago when I stated I would fight for this extension,” Mr Donnellan said.
“I recognise, as does the Labor State Government the amount of young people in this area and that the existing service that ended at Dandenong was not up servicing the needs of the young people of Casey. This new extension will go along way to now providing that service,” Mr Donnellan said.
The new extension to the Nightrider Service into Casey is part of the State Governments
$22 .5 million program designed to improve public transport in the outer suburbs. This new extension will provide a safe, cheap alternative for late night travel home for the young and not so young residents of Casey on the weekends.
A further part of the budget announced on Tuesday by the Treasurer and the Premier is an increase of 209 car parking spaces at the Berwick Railway Station as part of the ‘Park n Ride’ program which has proved extremely popular in other areas along the transport corridor.
“I would like to thank all those who contacted my office over the past year supporting me in my push to have this extension happen and I am extremely happy this extension is now a reality,” Mr Donnellan said.
